You will find very few people represented in my photographs. There are no photographs
of buildings, cityscapes, highways, ships or theme park attractions. The images
that populate our everyday, city-dwelling experience hold no fascination for me.
Here you will find only images of nature. Stars, volcanoes, landscapes, celestial
objects and events, underwater creatures, birds, animals . . . . . patterns of
light, color and structure defined by creation itself, rather than by our limited
monuments and handiworks.
Make no mistake about my seeming indifference to “things human”,
however. The search for beauty and meaning in nature is an entirely human affair.
A nature photograph has no value or purpose unless it serves to convey something
to another.
Some of the images you will find here are purely representational. Some are
abstractions. Many are intended to be instructive, and contain lengthy annotations
about photographic equipment and techniques. Others contain visual metaphor, both
strong and subtle; sometimes created consciously, sometimes not.
But it is my earnest hope that somewhere among these images you will find one
that transcends its representational boundaries and speaks to you in “.
. . the language of nature which one should listen to . . . “
If you are able to step through my lens and experience some of the exhilaration,
the awe and the sheer joy that I have experienced when creating these images,
then my efforts will not have been wasted.
